xTuple's Collective Brainpower Blog

If you're an active member of the xTuple open source community, or you want to get more involved, or you're new to participating in an open source community altogether, then this post is for you. Have you ever wanted to tell us that something is missing from or not quite right in xTuple ERP? You can tell us by entering a bug report or a feature request. If you have submitted a bug or feature via incidents on our Issue Tracker, did you wonder what happened next? I recently updated...

Recently I've had the opportunity to chat with a quite a lot of manufacturers and distributors about using direct online access to sales and service for customers and vendors — i.e., a sales portal — in their business strategy. We talked about the specific challenges they are facing, new changes in their industry, and how the Web seems to be the root of much of the change in technology....

Not too long ago, Seth McClain of The Hyde Company popped up on one of the xTuple online forums , announcing that he'd documented how to install xTuple PostBooks® and TimeTrex on the same Ubuntu server. This was not your typical forum post, where a user has a question or is asking for some needed help. Instead, this was a full-blown document describing — in specific detail — how to install and...

The CRM and ERP industry is dominated by a handful of very powerful offerings, but they are far from the only option when one of these software solutions is needed.

Business software leader xTuple, for example, has released new version (4.10) of its Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) package and the improved functionality...

xTuple 4.10 technology updates deliver advanced features, increase speed, pave way for future software development

After 18 months of research and development, business software leader xTuple releases 4.10 — a major milestone update of the company’s flagship Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) package. xTuple ERP+CRM 4.10 final release fixes over 300 bugs reported by the company's open source community and includes nearly 100 new features.

In this issue: year-end optimism, special year-end offer, deep-dive product news about milestone release version 4.10, ways to use training credits, FABTECH 2016 manufacturing show recap (including our presentation on xTupleCommerce), customer updates and partner news.

As we are planning the training schedule for 2017, I wanted to make sure everyone is aware of our exciting new training credits program. If you read the September 2016 issue of the xTupler , then you've already learned about it. For those of you haven't heard yet — and anyone else who would like to learn more — allow me to provide an overview of the program, and offer a few examples of how it...

Who would you say is more loyal than your trusty family dog? What if I told you there's a digital "secret sauce" to fostering such intimate, loyalty-based relationships with your customers ...? Recently, I presented a talk at FABTECH in Las Vegas on growth strategies for manufacturers. My topic was how to develop closer relationships with satisfied customers (and prospective customers) to build a more loyal following, repeat business and referrals.

xTuple ERP+CRM 4.10.0 final release is available for download from GitHub as well as the xTuple open source project page on SourceForge and includes major new features, small additions and technology changes implemented since 4.9.5. Why is this upgrade so important?

It’s a great honor to announce Women of Distinction Magazine’s recognition of xTuple Partner Janet Bradsher as a “Distinguished Professional in Her Field” in their upcoming Top Entrepreneur’s Edition.

I first met Janet in September 2013, and right away it was obvious that she knows accounting, operations and technology. With over twenty-five years of experience, including her work on...

While 451 Research data finds that 'cloud first' is becoming the 'new normal' for many organizations, significant challenges remain for organizations making this shift, especially those in regulated industries.

By now, people are familiar with the concept of “the cloud” (hint: it means “other people’s servers”), and may also know the advantages of hosting applications and data there: fast deployment, flexible hardware resources, and enhanced speed and security. Essentially, when you opt for the cloud you are choosing to outsource IT responsibility, or at least part of it, to people who are experts in...

Over 80% of small business managers still use pen, paper, and spreadsheets to run their workforce. And like most SMBs, it’s very likely that your outlook is strongly influenced by your current focus on day-to-day operations. When you’re buried up to the ears in work, it’s hard to find the time and energy to find solutions that help you shift your focus from day-to-day operations, to strategic...

The open source movement has truly changed the way we all think about and approach software.

Companies and communities like xTuple, Apache , Mozilla , and many others, leverage a mass of contributors across the globe to improve their product rapidly and put it in the hands of their users.

Some of the programs have a very focused, individual-user purpose. For example, Mozilla...
