3 Ways to Link Using the Document Tab

The xTuple Document Tab is the very useful way to attach files to documents and transactions in xTuple. Customers are always using it for things like attaching a copy of a Purchase Order (PO) to a Sales Order (SO). Or attaching a Customer’s logo art to the Customer record.

It can come in very handy for customers who are regulated, and need to attach Certificate of Compliance to Lot of an incoming purchase of a Lot Tracked raw material.

How about attaching a drawing to an Item Master?

The second most popular use of the Document Tab is attachment of URLs, or website addresses. Think about creating a link to your vendor’s online catalog. The Item Master for a purchased Item can have a direct link to the page on the Vendors website where that Item listed.

But did you know, you can also use the Document Tab for the linking of INTERNAL documents? Talk a look at all of the options:

Here you can think about linking all kinds of transaction, not just documents or files. Link an invoice to contact. Link an Incident to an Opportunity. Link an employee to a Fixed Asset.

There are so many different (and powerful!) ways we can use the Documents tab that I created a Documents Tab demo video for xTupleU. This video covers using the Documents tab to attach files, websites, and linking within the application. These functions are explained in-depth, along with a step-by-step process on how to perform each one within the xTuple Desktop.

Vice President Sales

Wally has been with xTuple since 2004 and in ERP sales since the mid-1990s. After all that time selling vendor-centric, proprietary enterprise software, moving to an open source, Mac-friendly ERP package was a natural evolution. Prior to xTuple, Wally spent 10 years at JD Edwards, which was eventually acquired by Peoplesoft, in various sales and sales management positions. He made the move to xTuple before Oracle took over both Peoplesoft and the former JDE. Prior to JD Edwards, Wally held sales positions at ERP software company Daly.commerce (formerly Daly and Wolcott), hardware supplier XL/Datacomp and storage vendor EMC. Wally holds a B.S. from Boston College, where the Mac fanaticism all began.
