World’s #1 Open Source ERP xTuple launches Cloud 2.0 Business Management Software as a Service

Complimentary Webinar: How to Evaluate ERP in the Cloud

In its latest “next generation” leap to service the global business community, industry innovator xTuple takes on both proprietary and open source software with its Cloud 2.0 service and a new evaluation methodology, hosted in the Cloud.

Responding to community requests for a superior user experience, xTuple Cloud 2.0 servers are geo-located around the globe for a triple-fold improvement in connections.

“Cloud 2.0 is a significant achievement, made possible by the efforts of many, many people over the past months,” said BC Wilson, director of product strategy. “And, for the first time, this opens the door for anyone to obtain a trial of the Mobile Web application on-demand.”

ERP solutions have long been installed on-site in the small- to medium-sized business (SMB) community. Today serious consideration is afforded to Cloud-based ERP implementations as organizations of all sizes come to recognize Cloud computing functionality is comparable – and in some ways superior – to on premise solutions. Cloud services can offer lower overall costs, better alignment between technology and specific business needs, scalability, ease of deployment and management, easier upgrades, anytime-anywhere access, and high reliability.

Privately-held xTuple, which recently posted its fifth record-breaking quarter in a row, unveiled Cloud 2.0 in coordination with a new 30-day, no-risk “Free Trial” of xTuple Enterprise Edition. This trial allows anyone to test and evaluate all the "bells and whistles" of open source xTuple ERP software.

xTuple, technically always available in the cloud, uses a new platform of cloud-building tools for the company’s first full, end-to-end Software as a Service (SaaS)/OnDemand enabled application. xTuple’s technical and business cloud capabilities provide SMBs worldwide with multiple, cost-effective ways to operate and grow their business regardless of the technology stack, with little to no re-engineering or re-architecting required. xTuple runs natively on any operating system – Windows, Mac OS, Linux/Unix, or any combination thereof.

Anyone can request a Free Trial account – at no charge and with no credit card required – from the company website, xTuple Free Trial webpage, or by downloading the latest client installer (included with version 4.0.5 and later) on xTuple’s project page on SourceForge. The scope of Free Trial, which allows both the Mobile Web and the Desktop client interfaces to connect to the same cloud databases, includes a redesigned Desktop client login and installer, new PostBooks licensing, updated website integration and registration, and a new easy-transition cloud subscription model, if desired, at the end of Free Trial testing.

“Free Trial shows off our assets in a way we’ve never done before. No other ERP company – traditional or open source – has such a tightly integrated Mobile and Desktop strategy,” said xTuple CEO Ned Lilly. “I encourage everyone to try it, if you haven’t done so yet. It’s kind of amazing.”

Free Trial delivers multiple ways to fully test xTuple ERP’s premium Enterprise Edition in the Cloud. First, the user evaluates the system through business process flow examples with a “Demo” database, complete with sample data from a fictional manufacturing and distribution company, Prodiem Toys. Then the user enters real company data, using the empty “QuickStart” database, to setup their own fully functional ERP system. Free Trial is complete when the user tests both the Mobile Web and the Desktop client interfaces to connect to the same cloud databases.

At the end of the 30-day evaluation period, users may continue with the free and open source (FOSS) xTuple PostBooks, with no commercial license or hosting fees and no time limits or restrictions. Or they can follow an easy path to upgraded paid options, choosing any commercial Edition — PostBooks, Standard, Manufacturing or Enterprise Edition — and selecting from an array of optional add-ons (included with Enterprise), and selecting support options. All products are available in the new Cloud 2.0 service, or as on-site, hosted applications.

The xTuple Team designed a webinar for SMBs to demonstrate how to evaluate the use of Cloud services. The event, “Webinar: How to Evaluate ERP in the Cloud,” is offered free of charge on Thursday, August 15, 2013, 1:15 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. Eastern Time (GMT-05:00-US & Canada).

Those businesses evaluating, or considering the evaluation of, ERP software, whether desktop or SaaS platforms, will benefit from this webinar. xTuple users, whether long-time PostBooks fans, new users already in the Free Trial-phase, or current commercial customers, will also benefit from this evaluation methodology and see a demonstration of the interactivity of Desktop and Mobile Web applications.

Participants will learn about the pros and cons of hardware and software installation, hosting on-site or in the cloud, security, server maintenance and performance, data ownership and migration, concurrent versus named users, licensing options, and more.
