OpenMFG ERP Suite Certified for "Tiger"

NORFOLK, VA

Enterprise Software for Manufacturers and Distributors Now Available for Apple Mac OS X 10.4

OpenMFG, the leading provider of open standards-based enterprise solutions for small manufacturers and distributors, today announced that its flagship OpenMFG Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) Suite has been certified for Apple Mac OS X 10.4 "Tiger."

The OpenMFG Suite is a next-generation, Internet-enabled and fully- integrated ERP application. Both the OpenMFG Client and the OpenMFG Server have been certified for use on "Tiger," as well as past versions of Mac OS X. Available modules include Inventory Management, Part Definition and Costing, Work Order Management, Master Scheduling, Capacity Planning, Purchase Order Management, Sales Order Management, Shipping and Receiving, Sales Analysis, Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Bank Reconciliation, and a full General Ledger.

The OpenMFG ERP Suite also features a graphical report writer and renderer, OpenRPT, with support for leading document sizes and label formats, barcodes, images, and watermarks. OpenRPT for Mac OS X ships standard with the OpenMFG ERP Suite, and is also available separately as a fully embeddable report writer and rendering engine for other Mac OS X software. OpenRPT is available as free, open source software under the GNU General Public License (GPL), or under a commercial license for customers who do not wish to be bound by the terms of the GPL.

"We've seen an enormous amount of interest from customers and partners in running OpenMFG on Tiger," said Ned Lilly, OpenMFG's president and CEO. "It's clearly the best Mac operating system yet, and a powerful and stable environment for mission-critical applications like OpenMFG."

One OpenMFG customer making the move to Tiger is Area, Inc., an independent maker of sophisticated bedding and home accessories based in New York City whose products are distributed throughout North America. Area was seeing growing demand for the original designs, natural fibers, and informal yet sophisticated style that characterize their growing product line. Having made do with a simple accounting program running on the legacy MacOS 9 for many years, Area made a companywide decision to update their business systems to the OpenMFG ERP Suite running on Apple Mac OS X "Tiger."

"We are a company that believes in the marriage of functionality and design," said Anki Spets, the founder and president of Area, Inc. "OpenMFG on Tiger gives us incredible power underneath a very clean and simple interface. It's important that as we grow our business, our technology systems allow us the flexibility to run our company in the way we see fit."

All OpenMFG products are built with robust open source components including the PostgreSQL database, and the Qt framework for C++. This underlying technology, invisible to the user, enables OpenMFG and its partners to deliver sophisticated ERP functionality at a very low total cost of ownership. It also enables a true multiplatform solution for individual workstations; in addition to Mac OS X, the OpenMFG Client runs on Windows, Linux, and various commercial Unix systems. By leveraging this open source "stack," and through an innovative partner program which borrows from the open source software development process, OpenMFG brings a competitive new approach to a sorely underserved market.
