OpenMFG Announces New Mac Customers

NORFOLK, VA

From industrial to high-tech, manufacturers and distributors embrace Mac-based ERP

OpenMFG, the leading provider of Apple Mac-based enterprise solutions for small manufacturers and distributors, announced several new users of its namesake Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) software running on the Apple Mac OS X platform. OpenMFG will exhibit at MacWorld this week as part of the Enterprise and Business Solutions Pavilion, Booth 4028, demonstrating the only Enterprise Resource Planning application that runs natively on Mac OS X on both the client and the server.

OpenMFG is an advanced ERP software solution built with open source components, such as the Qt cross-platform framework (which enables the Mac client, as well as Windows and Linux), the PostgreSQL database, and the OpenRPT report writer. Available OpenMFG modules include Inventory Management, Product Definition and Costing, Work Order Management, Manufacturing and Scheduling, Capacity Planning, Purchase Order Management, Sales Order Management, Shipping and Receiving, Project Management, Sales Analysis, Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, a full General Ledger, and Customer Relationship Management.

Reverso Pumps, of Fort Lauderdale, FL, manufacturers oil pumps and fuel primers for marine and industrial applications. The company is growing rapidly, and needed more power and flexibility than was available with their small business accounting software. At any given time, ten employees are now using the new OpenMFG system concurrently on Mac OS X clients, from sales and marketing, to manufacturing and planning, to purchasing and accounting. Reverso President John Napurano noted that he and his team selected OpenMFG after a thorough review process, including several key users downloading a fully functional OpenMFG for Mac client.

"We were able to put it through its paces and make sure it met our needs before spending a dime," said Napurano.

You don't have to be a manufacturer to benefit from OpenMFG for Mac. Nashville, TN-based Flat Earth Networking, an exclusive Mac organization, implements best-of-breed network security solutions. These solutions include firewalls, VPNs, and intrusion detection and prevention. Flat Earth president Gregory Flatt notes that OpenMFG's modular architecture allowed for some simple modifications to make a powerful solution for distributors and service providers.

"We researched and evaluated ERP applications for over two years before selecting OpenMFG," said Flatt. "It has allowed us to continue to grow our business beyond what other applications provided. As a small business, it is of critical importance that the manufacturer of the software we use to run our business is flexible and quick to respond to our unique support needs. The personnel at OpenMFG are among the best I have ever worked with."

From its roots in agricultural silos, Mankato, MN's Pneumat Systems, offers hydraulic and pneumatic cleaning products and services to a variety of bulk material handling industries such as feed mills, grain terminals and cement plants. Pneumat helped design the new Customer Relationship Management (CRM) module, as well as enhancements to inventory and manufacturing master information managed by the OpenMFG system. Pneumat General Manager Greg Nelson was initially drawn to the ability to run OpenMFG completely on Macs, but has found the interaction with fellow users to be equally valuable.

"We actively participate in public discussions with other customers and partners about new features, bug fixes, and best practices in manufacturing," said Nelson. "It's more than just a software company; it really is a community."

"We're delighted that we continue to see great adoption of OpenMFG among Mac users," said OpenMFG CEO Ned Lilly. "Whether they're 100% Apple shops, or mixed with Windows, Linux, or Unix, OpenMFG allows our customers to maximize their existing technology investments, and avoid the forced upgrades that are so common in the enterprise software market."
