Open Source, Cross-Platform ERP Leader Announces xTuple ERP 3.2

NORFOLK, VA

Dialogue with open source community drives swift delivery of more than 300 enhancements

xTuple, the leader in open source enterprise resource planning (ERP) software, today announced the release of xTuple ERP 3.2, which adds over 300 enhancements developed in direct response to dialogue with customers and within xTuple’s online community forum discussions. New functionality for tasks related to customer relationship management (CRM) and manufacturing, new business intelligence (BI) and analytical capabilities and the integration of the Qt Designer graphical developer tool headline the list of enhancements.

“Because xTuple keeps a very active dialogue going with its community of users, partners and developers, we are able to deliver features that meet precise customer specifications and then publicly vet them,” said Ned Lilly, President and CEO of xTuple. “The constant interaction with our open source community enables us to very quickly bring to market the features and tweaks that users themselves say they need most urgently, compared with slow-moving Goliaths in the industry that force customers to swallow whatever they are sold.”

xTuple ERP is widely considered the most highly capable, fully cross-platform open source ERP system available in the marketplace. Version 3.2 adds major usability improvements to the suite’s fully integrated CRM module (graphical calendar of To-Do items, email and alarm notifications of system events), time-saving consolidated workbenches in the Accounting modules, and a range of much-anticipated enhancements to the Manufacturing module. In close cooperation with the open source community, xTuple also dramatically enhanced the integrated OpenRPT report writer — adding more sophisticated BI and analytical tools, as well as a greatly improved user interface.

In addition, xTuple ERP now includes a fully integrated copy of the Qt Designer graphical developer tool, the form and screen-building application included with the Qt suite of cross-platform C++ programmer tools from Qt Software, a unit of Nokia Corporation. The embedded Designer tool allows power users of xTuple ERP to create new screens, as well as edit existing screens within xTuple, without requiring the added complexity of a separate Qt development environment.

xTuple’s emphasis on company-guided but community-driven, cooperative development is reflected not only within its product feature sets but also within its approach to the marketplace on the whole.

“We continue to execute on our twofold strategy of enhancing our core product, while providing ever-more-powerful tools for the open source community to grow with us,” noted Lilly. “With PostBooks® and OpenRPT as our core free offerings, and the PostgreSQL database and Qt as key enabling technologies, we reaffirm our commitment to growing the preeminent global community of open source ERP professionals.”

The PostBooks® Edition of xTuple ERP is available free of charge under the open source Common Public Attribution License (CPAL), and is consistently ranked among the top ten projects on the SourceForge open source download portal, where it has been downloaded over 200,000 times by IT and ERP professionals around the world. The Standard and Manufacturing Editions are available under xTuple's innovative hybrid license, whereby customers and partners have full access to the application source code, and any enhancements made to the product flow back to xTuple for review, quality testing, and possible incorporation into the baseline product.

All xTuple ERP products run equally well on Mac, Windows, and Linux computers, and are fully internationalized with multi-currency, support for multiple tax structures, and multilingual translation packs maintained by the global open source community. All this and more, including public discussion forums, a documentation wiki, blogs, and the community issue/bug tracker, can be found at www.xtuple.org.
