xTuple is happy to welcome "Woz" given our long and happy affiliation with Apple products, including desktops, MacBooks, iPhones and iPads. Steve Wozniak helped shape the computing industry with his design of Apple's first line of products - the Apple I and II - and influenced the popular Macintosh. In 1976, Wozniak and Steve Jobs founded Apple Computer, Inc., with Wozniak's Apple I personal computer. The following year, he introduced his Apple II personal computer, featuring a central processing unit, a keyboard, color graphics, and a floppy disk drive. The Apple II was integral in launching the personal computer industry.

Steve "Woz" Wozniak, Co-founder of Apple Computer, Inc., Chief Scientist of Fusion-io

A Silicon Valley icon and philanthropist for the past three decades, Steve Wozniak revolutionized the personal computer industry as co-founder of Apple Computer. With its first line of Apple products — Macintosh, Apple I and Apple II — Wozniak and Steve Jobs brought computers to the hands of the mass market. Wozniak’s leadership and creativity cultivated significant disruptive technologies such as the iPod (2001), the iPhone (2007) and the iPad (2010), while also helping to build the largest company in the US stock market with a net worth of half a trillion dollars.

For his achievements at Apple Computer, Wozniak was awarded the National Medal of Technology by the President of the United States, which is the highest honor bestowed on America's leading innovators. He is also an inductee to the National Inventors Hall of Fame and recently received the prestigious Hoover Medal, given for "outstanding extra-career services by engineers to humanity."

Through the years, Wozniak has been involved in various business and philanthropic ventures; he currently serves as Chief Scientist for Fusion-io and is a published author of a New York Times best-selling autobiography, iWoz: From Computer Geek to Cult Icon. Captain Robert N. "Goose" Geis, Chief of Staff, Navy Region Mid-Atlantic

Captain Geis, a native of San Diego, CA, reported to Commander, Navy Region Mid-Atlantic in June 2014 after serving as Director of Operations, Navy Installations Command. CAPT Geis graduated from the University of California at San Diego with a BA in Communications. He was commissioned as an Ensign after graduating from Aviation Officer Candidate School in October 1987. He was designated as a Naval Flight Officer (NFO) in 1989.

His first sea tour was in Sea Control Squadron (VS)-32, where he made two deployments in support of Operations DESERT STORM and SOUTHERN WATCH aboard USS AMERICA (CV-66). Captain Geis was named the VS-32 NFO of the year for 1992. He served in Carrier Group Three as Assistant Air Operations Officer aboard USS ABRAHAM LINCOLN (CVN-72) and USS CARL VINSON (CVN-70) in support of Operation SOUTHERN WATCH. He was then selected to be a Flag Aide for Commander, U.S. Naval Forces, Japan. He was a Department head in VS-30, serving as Administrative Officer, Safety Officer, and Maintenance Officer, completing a deployment in USS GEORGE WASHINGTON (CVN-73) and was named VS-30 NFO of the Year in 2000. His most recent squadron tour was command of Strike Fighter Squadron 211. During his command tour, the command was awarded the Battle “E” award for 2005, deployed in USS ENTERPRISE (CVN 65) in support of both Operations ENDURING FREEDOM and IRAQI FREEDOM, and executed the first east coast deployment of the Super Hornet in 2006.

His personal decorations include the Legion of Merit (with 2 Gold Stars), Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Strike-Flight Air Medal, Joint Service Commendation Medal, Navy-Marine Corps Commendation Medal (with three Gold Stars), Joint Service Achievement Medal, and the Navy Achievement Medal (with two Gold Stars) as well as several unit and campaign awards.

Karen Jackson, Secretary of Technology, Commonwealth of Virginia

Karen Jackson previously served as the Deputy Secretary of Technology for the Commonwealth of Virginia. In this capacity, she served as a senior advisor to the Governor on technology matters including modeling and simulation, telecommunications, telework, and unmanned aerial systems. In these areas, she was responsible for policy and legislative initiatives as well as developing programs to facilitate innovation, collaborations, technology development and adoption. Ms. Jackson serves as the Virginia lead for the Mid-Atlantic Aviation Partnership with New Jersey (MAAP). Prior to her current appointment, she served as Deputy Secretary of Technology and director of the Commonwealth's Office of Telework Promotion and Broadband Assistance for the Kaine Administration.

Ms. Jackson has been actively engaged in the federal policy initiatives including the development of the National Broadband Plan. She received a 2009 IP3 award from Public Knowledge for her work in information policy and was named to Government Technology's 2010 list of the top 25 Doers, Dreamers, and Drivers. She serves on a number of Boards including the Virginia Telehealth Network, the Information Technology Advisory Council, the Policy Committee of the National Modeling and Simulation Coalition, and the National Center for Collaboration in Medical Modeling and Simulation. She holds a B.S. in business management from Christopher Newport University and a M.B.A. from The College of William and Mary.

Paul Fraim, Mayor, City of Norfolk, Virginia (USA)

Mayor Fraim was born in Norfolk, Virginia, graduated from Norfolk Catholic High School, completed undergraduate studies at Virginia Military Institute, received his Master of Education from the University of Virginia and his law degree from the University of Richmond.

A member of Norfolk City Council since 1986, he was appointed Mayor on July 1, 1994, and was re-appointed every two years until May 2006 when he became first popularly elected mayor since 1916.

He began private practice in May 1977 and is currently president of the law firm Fraim and Fiorella, PC. He is chairman of the Towne Bank Norfolk Board of Directors. He is a trustee of the Eastern Virginia Medical School Foundation, president of the VMI Board of Visitors, and President of the Slover Library Foundation Board.

He is the former chair of the USS Wisconsin Foundation and a member of the Virginia Maritime Heritage Foundation and the National Maritime Center Board of Directors.

Mr. Fraim is a member of the Virginia State Bar. He is a member of and has served on the Executive Committee of the Virginia Bar Association, and he is also a fellow of the Virginia Law Foundation.

Sara Russell, ODU Strome College of Business, Maritime Institute

Sara Russell is a lecturer in the Maritime and Supply Chain Management Program at Old Dominion University in Norfolk, VA. Ms. Russell created and implemented the course curriculum designed to provide students with an integrated working knowledge of maritime operations and supply chain management. In addition, she has published a chapter entitled, Port Safety and Workers in the edited text Maritime Safety, Security and Piracy. Ms. Russell published an article on "The Expansion of the Panama Canal and Its Impact on Virginia" for the University of Virginia's Weldon Cooper Center for Public Service. She is also published in the edited text, Transportation Dictionary.

Outside the classroom, Ms. Russell is the faculty advisor for the Old Dominion Student Propeller Club and serves as President for the Hampton Road’s Chapter of the Organization for Women in International Trade. Prior to joining the faculty at Old Dominion, Ms. Russell’s career included positions in various fields including transportation and logistics, port operations and customs brokerage. She holds a M.B.A. with concentrations in maritime, ports and logistics management and international business from Old Dominion University and a B.S. from the University of Delaware.

Daniel Pocock, Debian Project

Daniel Pocock is a Switzerland-based developer in Debian, Ubuntu and Fedora operating systems, as well as the project founder for JSCommunicator, a full-featured phone, webcam and messaging application. Daniel uses the traditional PostBooks® system via its powerful Qt GUI (graphical user interface) to power his own finances, and he was so impressed with xTuple's "shiny new Web-based user interface," that he asked one of his Google Summer of Code (GSoC) students, Juliana Louback, to determine how to integrate JSCommunicator. Daniel presents his telephony interface to the xTuple community at xTupleCon14, before traveling to the GSoC 10-year reunion.
