Commercial package integrates services billing and vouchering with leading open source ERP
xTuple, the leader in open source enterprise resource planning (ERP) software for small to medium-sized businesses (SMBs), today announced the general availability of Time and Expense Professional for xTuple ERP. Built by Michigan-based xTuple partner Core Services Group, using xTuple’s modular xTension Package toolkit, this latest addition makes xTuple a compelling option for a range of businesses offering billable professional services.
“There’s been enormous demand for professional time and expense management in the xTuple community,” said Ned Lilly, xTuple CEO. “We’re using the module ourselves, as our many of our implementation partners. It’s also a great complement to existing xTuple users in manufacturing and distribution who do project-based services work alongside their product offerings.”
The Time and Expense Package streamlines the expense and billing process for professional service companies:
Managers or individual employees can enter time or expenses, associated with a particular customer or project. Time and expenses are defined as Items in xTuple; prices/rates can be set by Item, Customer, Project, or Employee.
Sheets remain open until the employee or manager approves time and/or expenses posted to them.
Once sheets are approved, managers can create customer invoices automatically for time and expenses recorded, optionally they can consolidate multiple sheets into a single invoice or create vouchers to pay/reimburse employees or contractors.
“Our intention is to continue to grow the Time and Expense Pro package to include more robust Project Accounting functionality,” said Scott Zuke, a principal at Core Services Group. “We will work with the xTuple community and our commercial customers to manage ongoing development, including features that will be in the free package.”
A basic edition of the Time and Expense package ships with the free PostBooks® Edition of xTuple, and is also available separately from xTuple at no charge. Core is making the Time and Expense Pro available to all xTuple partners at no charge.
“The Time and Expense Pro package has greatly streamlined our accounting processes,” said Will Bralick, president of Paladin Logic, another xTuple partner based in Texas. “The benefits have included saved employee time and getting invoices out much more quickly — which in turn helps accounts receivable and improves cash flow.”
The PostBooks® Edition of xTuple ERP is available free of charge under the open source Common Public Attribution License (CPAL), or xTuple's hybrid commercial license, whereby customers and partners have full access to the application source code, and any enhancements made to the product flow back to xTuple for review, quality testing, and possible incorporation into the baseline product. The Standard and Manufacturing Editions of xTuple are commercially-licensed products with expanded features based on the core PostBooks Edition.
Both the Basic and Pro versions of Time and Expense are available for all three Editions of xTuple ERP. Introductory pricing for Time and Expense Pro is $399, and will include all minor updates for the 1.x product cycle. Both packages are available on the xTuple xChange, the online marketplace for xTuple add-on applications.
